Spartacus and Jesus Christ what do they have in common.

Spartacus: Blood and Sand [Blu-ray]
Crucifixion in the Ancient World and the Folly of the Message of the Cross (Facets)
Finaly a story told the right way. I dont usually like remakes but this one really got my attention. The story flows and it holds true to the legend. Believe it or not there really was a slave by the name Spartacus who was a gladiator and lead a massive slave revolt that almost toppled the Roman empire. This is why he, his family, and his captains were crucified at the end; they had to make an example of him to prevent anyone else getting the idea of rebellion or trying to overthrow the empire. Romans were some of the most brutal people that ever lived on this earth. They subjagated 80% of the Meditoranian world and they did so by way of guile, war, terrorism, and money.
Some people think that Crucifixion was reserved for people like Jesus of Nazareth; when actually it was a brutal punishment reserved for political prisoners who Rome needed to make an example of. This is why the mere fact that this individual and Christ were both crucified shows that the problems caused by Jesus were significant enough to be mentioned by Josephus and the chronical of palestine. The primary crime that Jesus committed was, in the eyes of the Roman world, equivalent to the crimes committed by Spartacus. Jesus was encurageing his followers to overthrow the powers that be and to try to start a new order. What I find facinating is the fact that both of their stories have outlived the Roman Empire and Jesus eventually, through his followers, changed the Roman empire and arguably the history of man kind by triggering the creation of two of the worlds great religions.

Man i wish this gizmo came with a spell checker. Honest i'm not an illiterate moron, I just spell at the 8th grade level. We wont even talk about my complete lack of math skills.

Little tidbit -- In Word 2007 you can write your blog post, spell check it and with pretty much the click of the mouse, post it directly to your blog.

Will bookmark your blog for more interesting insights.

  3. I just finished rewatching the War of the Damned Season of the Spartacus series produced by Steven DeKnight et. al.
I was sharing with my student the significance in understanding why message of Jesus was a nonviolent revolutionary mission that caused a threat to Roman terror over its captives and its enslaved. The legend of Spartacus lived through the hearts of those who wanted freedom. This blog is a very important location for discussion of historical fact and fiction. I would love to see a series made of Nat Turner and John Brown to capture the history of African-American fights for freedom by those who were the Spartacus related characters in our the history of the USA.
