How many times have you read these words, ‘unexpected’ in the news lately. If things are so unexpected then why don’t we get new people that know what they are doing so they aren’t surprised as often. I’m a psychologist by trade, if I were to say “wow that guy committed suicide that was unexpected”, or “ the number of patients that I saw was unexpectedly low”, I would be promptly shown the door and asked to not return. Are you really going to tell me that it was unexpected that the price of oil would drop as far as it did when the IEC announced that countries were releasing 60 million barrels of oil from strategic reserves. Now in the short run that is going to lower the price of oil, and since the price of oil was over inflated by speculation, people are going to panic sell oil. Now the problem is that OPEC hates low prices so they are going to try and get oil back over 100 by cutting production. In the mean time we don’t have enough refining capacity to make gas out of the oil we have. BTW did you know that most of our oil comes from Canada and the Gulf of Mexico and not from OPEC. We also can get a lot of oil in this country. Wait.. that’s right… we might kill a fish or a dear or something so we aren’t allowed to drill for the oil that is right here. Anyway why don’t we use natural gas instead? Pa has the 4th largest natural gas deposits in the world not to mention the rest of the country.
Oh the housing market is another great example; why was it unexpected for housing starts to be so low? Lets see high default rates, banks don’t want to loan unless you are a zillionaire, there is a glut of houses on the market that are still over valued. I know… I’m unexpectedly smart enough to figure this out on my own.
The only thing that I’ve seen as being reported as ‘unexpected’ that was truly ‘unexpected’ was the fact that the Pittsburgh Pirates are at .500 and only 3 games behind first. The Steelers loosing the Super Bowl wasn’t even unexpected this year(gasp an honest Steeler fan, I know we are a cult).
So relax America in the knowledge that no matter what happens it’s unexpected and that makes it ok to really screw up the country. The people in charge use the term ‘Sertorius Paribas’ as if it is a way to hide from reality. BTW that is a big fancy term from Economics that means ‘all other things held constant’ great little tool that enables you to only look at two variables and pretend that everything else is going to stay the same no matter what. It’s like saying ‘driving more than 55 miles per hour on the highway causes the price of oil to go up’ well if you hold all other variables constant it’s true.
Well good night from Mudville Pa…err I mean Meadville Pa. relax the Politian's know what they are doing <
